Valerie Y. Rosa Beltran is a published researcher, DJ, and award-winning soprano from Puerto Rico. Her academic background includes a B.A. from the University of Puerto Rico, and a B.M. from the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music. In the U.K. she obtained a MMus from the Royal Northern College of Music, supported by the Opera Awards Foundation and a second MMus at King’s College London supported by the Anthony and Susan Chow Scholarship.
In London she was part of the team at Latin Elephant, a charity that advocates for a more inclusive regeneration process for racialized communities. In this role, she actively contributed to public discourse around food, migration, and urban space, speaking at events at the Barbican and the BBC amongst others. Alongside her academic work, she is also active as a DJ, advocating for the preservation, creation and promotion of Caribbean and Latin American music.
