Lisa Figueroa is a Manchester-based PhD Researcher at the University of Huddersfield. Her work explores how amplification technologies shape the lived experiences, identities, and sense of belonging within LGBTQI+ communities in the ‘Strange Quarter’ of Cheetham Hill, Manchester. She holds a BA in Sociology from the University of San Francisco and an MA in Social Anthropology from Stockholm University. Previously, she has conducted research on the impact of gentrification and cost-of-living crisis on bass music in London and has curated music for radio stations in San Francisco, San Luis Obispo, and Stockholm. She has also collaborated with Artforum in Barcelona on projects capturing ambient sounds for exhibitions designed to allow blind individuals to experience the sonic dimensions of industrial spaces. Her research interests center on ethnography, participatory action research, queer-centered music theory, and practices of self-expression.
